Herbie, a Beetle of 1963is the protagonist of the series of the same name 'Herbie'. The car with a life of its own was created by German scientist Gustav Stumpfel at the end of World War II, on commission from the US occupiers. However, Stumpfel decides to release the Beetle instead of handing it over to the army. After various vicissitudes Herbie meets racing driver Jim Douglas (Dean Jones) and begins a 'career' as a racing car, achieving many successes around the world.
It was the ingenious engineer Ferdinand Porsche who completed, in February of 1938the first prototypes of the car that would revolutionise the concept of mobility: the saloon and cabriolet Typ1 mark the birth of a legend: the Beetle. Innovative in design and mechanics, it was among the greatest innovations in automotive production of the period, making the Beetle the first truly affordable car.
