The first specimens developed by the Zuffenhausen House a Gmünd were characterised by an aluminium body. In 1950with the start of production at Stuttgartaluminium was replaced by steel plate.

La Speedster was founded in 1954 from an idea by Max Hoffmanthe Porsche importer for North America. Hoffman had guessed that the Americans would welcome a 356 light, agile and no-frills.

In the autumn of the same year, the idea materialised in a 356 with sheet metal bodywork, low windscreen, windows 'in cloth' transparent, few accessories and top 'makeshift'. The cost amounted to 2,995 Dollars. On the sides, the words 'Speedster'.

It quickly became a success, particularly popular in the temperate climate of Florida and California, but also in the numerous minor leagues of the confederation. The 356 A Speedster reached its peak in the 1957 with the Carrera GS/GT from 110 hp e 200 km/h. The Speedster was produced until '58 and was replaced in '59 by the Convertible Da sort of interim version, pending the imminent launch of the 356 B.

After years of stalling, the Speedster name reappears in the 1987 when a new prototype with the same mechanics as the Carrera 3.2. Its peculiarity lies in the possibility of fitting a rigid tonneau cover to transform it into a daring single-seater with a small windscreen. In January of 1989 the Speedster officially returns to the Stuttgart manufacturer's list: 3.2 engine, bodywork 'narrow' o Turbo lookwith enlarged wheel arches. Production ends in 1992 with a total of over 2100 specimensof which only 161 in configuration Slim. On our products the 3.2 Speedster is depicted in the Turbo look.
