Machine protagonist of the film The Graduate (The Graduate), with Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, the Duet was launched in 1966with the engine 1600 of Giulia Sprint GT in the most powerful version Fast.

The shape, as the Biscione company hastened to clarify, recalls a cuttlefish bonethe shell of the cephalopod mollusc, by virtue of its rounded front and tail, joined by convex sides, with a rather low belt line. The tail, tapering transversally and longitudinally, follows the dictates of the more classic type boat-tail. For the mechanics, the new chassis of the Juliashortening the pace to 2,250 mm. In the US version, the Plexiglas caps were replaced by a chrome trim.

In 1966, the only version, created to be an upper-medium segment car, was the Spider 1600 Series 105.03 and defined Series 105.05 in right-hand-drive versions. Equipped with the AR 00536 the classic 1,570 cm³ light alloy twin-shaft 4-cylinder with 109 hp featuring two Weber 40 DCOE 27 twin-body carburettors o Solex C32 PAIA7 (less widespread).

In 1967, to follow the trends of increased performance of cars across the entire 'range' of the Biscione company, the already brilliant 1600 was joined by a version called 1750 Spider Veloce which was fitted with the more powerful and elastic engine acronym AR 00548 of the 1750 series (1,779 cm³) that developed 118 HP but the weight of the body was carried by 990 kg a 1040 kg. This became the new flagship version.

In early 1968 in order to be able to offer a Duet at a lower price, a cheaper version, called Spider 1300 Junior which was aesthetically distinguished by the absence of front headlamp caps, fixed deflectors and a different position of the side indicator buds. The engine was the same as the GT 1300 Junior series AR 00530 with a displacement of 1290 cm³ developing 89 HP. In December of 1968 the spider 1600 born as a top model, and now superseded by the new, more powerful version equipped with the 1750was taken out of production. The following remained in production 1750 Spider Veloce and the smaller and cheaper Spider 1300 Junior.
