The turbocharged counterpart of the GT3, named GT2 and presented in 2001also only available at rear-wheel drive to save weight and avoid power loss through the drive shaft (the GT2 was built to compete in the GT2 racingwhich prohibited the use of a four-wheel drive system). The GT2 received a series of kits and aerodynamic body parts such as thefixed rear wing (made of CFRP since 2003) and an enhanced version of the 3.6-litre twin-turbo engine of 996 Turbowith turbochargers e intercooler larger, a revised intake and exhaust system and reprogrammed engine control software. The result was 356 kW (484 hp) a 5,700 rpm e 640 Nm between the 3500 and the 4500 rpmsufficient to make the car accelerate from 0 a 97 km/h at 3.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 315 km/h. In addition, both wheels and tyres have been oversized along with the carboceramic brakesto compensate for the increased power of the engine. On the GT2 in the passenger compartment, the rear seats and air conditioning have been removed and there is in their place a roll-bar. Both GT3 and GT2 have only the gearbox 6-speed manual.
