La Gran Torino is the more aggressively designed remake of the Ford Torino, the latter produced by the Ford Motor Company between 1968 and 1976. The Gran Torino, produced from 1972, immediately entered the Olympus of American symbols and became an icon. Starring in the well-known TV series "Starsky and Hutch, is the car chosen by detective David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) to chase dangerous criminals through the streets of Bay City, with the help of his colleague and friend Ken Hutchinson (David Soul), under the radio code 'Zebra 3'. The red body and white stripe make the Gran Torino used in the series unmistakable, to the point of receiving the nickname 'Striped tomato' from the manufacturer.

Some modifications were made to the series model: an engine was fitted V8 351 Windsor 5.8L and the gear ratio was raised for better acceleration during chase scenes.

In the wake of the success of "Starsky and HutchIn 1976, a limited edition of one thousand of the Gran Torino 'Zebra 3with the series livery and engines 152, 180 and 202 hp V8s.
